"1769" is the name of the starter at Clos Venturi. This year commemorates the annexation of Corsica to France. Apparently not all Corsicans are separatists.
The 1769 Rouge AOP Corse consists of equal parts of the typical Corsican red wine grapes Niellucciu (also known as Sangiovese) and Sciaccarellu. 60% are aged for twelve months in steel tanks, 40% in large wooden barrels.
The altitude in the middle of Corsica creates a delicate and fresh red wine that has an unusual taste for this southern origin. The wine has nerve and bite, no lush fruit at all, it has a real Cool Climate character. The aromas are clear and spicy with notes of red and black berries, cherries, a hint of cocoa, green pepper and a very delicate roasted note. The taste of the 1769 Clos Venturi Rouge is present, fresh and elegant, the silky tannins are very harmonious and marble the wine.
An exciting wine from the only winery in the highlands of Corsica.
