Garnacha or Garnatxa, as it is called in Catalan, is a red grape variety that is perfectly adapted to the warm climate of the Mediterranean. Avgvstvs Forum describes this wine as micovinification, as the grapes only come from a specific plot near the Santes Creus monastery in Penedes and only around 3,000 bottles are produced per harvest.
The vines are over forty years old, which gives the wine a wonderful depth. The harvest was cold mashed for two days before fermentation began in order to obtain a fruity aroma. The Garnatxa Negra was then aged for six months in French 300L barrels. It was bottled without fining and only lightly filtered.
The Augustus Forum Garnacha has an intense bouquet that also appears subtle and delicate at the same time. The aromas are reminiscent of red and dark berries, with floral nuances and an elegant roasted note in the background, giving the wine an additional dimension. On the palate it is full, fruity, round and has an invigorating balance in the long-lasting finish. A high class wine, made with great sensitivity.
