The Weißburgunder has a long tradition at the H. Dönnhoff winery on the Nahe. The Dönnhoffs never tried to make a Burgundian wine from it, but rather a lively and fresh type of white wine that is rounder than the Riesling and yet very typical of the Nahe wine-growing region, with its cool and precise nature.
The vines for the Dönnhoff Weissburgunder estate wine are between 20 and 50 years old and grow on the heavier soils of the winery, which have a higher clay content than the Riesling sites. The wine is fermented and aged in large traditional wooden barrels.
