The Dönnhoff Riesling clay slate grows on slopes in the nearby wine town of Oberhausen, specifically around the Leistenberg site. The soil here is characterized by grey-black slate, which gives the Rieslings an elegant and at the same time playful style. The vines for the Dönnhoff Tonschiefer are between 25 and 45 years old, the yields are kept low and, depending on the vintage, are around 45 hectoliters per hectare.

The Riesling dry clay slate is stored partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in traditional large wooden barrels before it is bottled.

The 2023 edition of this dry Riesling from Dönnhoff is more fruity than its predecessor; the once again warm year gave this subtle Riesling a juicy peach note and citrus tones, as well as a subtle mineral base that creates excitement. On the palate, this fruit intensity makes it a pleasure even at a very young age; it's hard to resist. Of course, it will still mature positively in the bottle for a few years if you let it.
