The Mount Diablo Highlands Red Blend from Wente Vineyards consists of a blend of many high-quality grape varieties with European origins that have been cultivated by the Wente family in California for five generations . Specifically, for the 2021 vintage these are: 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot, 16% Merlot, 11% Barbara, 11% Tempranillo, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% Malbec. These are fermented separately and the mash is pumped around twice a day so that as much of the aromatics as possible are released. The final cuvée is then determined and aged in barriques.
The Wente Mount Diablo Highlands has a playful aroma of ripe berries, plus plums and cherries, caramel and coffee, underlined with a touch of pepper. With this cuvée, Wente attaches great importance to balance in the wine; the intense fruit is perfectly complemented by the aromas of the wooden barrel aging; the tannins are ripe and support the wine, but do not dominate at any point. Therefore, you can enjoy this wine immediately after bottling; it does not need any storage time, but can still remain in the cellar for a few years.
