Taylor's legendary Vintage Ports are rare because the quality standards are extremely high. In the 1990s, only 1992, 1994 and this 1997 vintage were declared. These port wines are among the icons of their kind. Taylor Vintage Ports can mature in the bottle for 100 years or more under good conditions and are among the greatest wine experiences.

The 1997 vintage was characterized by early budding of the vines. The sunny year was supported by rainfall at the right time, which avoided drought stress and led to the grapes ripening perfectly. The grape harvest took place in the best weather and it was clear early on that this was a magnificent vintage that did justice to a classic Taylor Vintage Port.

The trade press is extremely impressed with the 1997 Taylor's Vintage Port. Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast are each at 96/100, Revista Adega from Portugal is the most recent tasting note in 2020 at 95/100. They write: "More than 20 years in the bottle have already shaped the aromas and flavors. The wine still shows high-quality red fruits, but also notes of dried fruits, liqueur cherries, tobacco and dried herbs, all balanced by tannins of good texture and refreshing acidity. The finish is smooth and persistent and confirms the taste."

This is a first-class port that can be stored for decades, but which already shows a lot today.
